Tomoni Privacy Policy

Tomoni is a multilingual local marketplace for foreign residents in Japan. This Privacy Policy explains how Tomoni handles information when you use the app.

Information We Collect

We collect information needed to provide the marketplace service:

Account information: email address and user identifier.
Profile information: display name, city, and language preference.
User-posted information: secondhand and used-vehicle listings, local job or help posts, advertising requests, item details, station or pickup area, and publication status.
User images: photos uploaded with posts or listings.
Messages: conversation messages between users.
Safety reports: reports, blocks, and moderation-related records.
Location information: a selected station or pickup area, and precise device coordinates when a user actively chooses Nearby search and grants location permission.

For Nearby search, Tomoni sends the device coordinates to its service only to return listings within the selected radius. Exact coordinates and home addresses are not shown to other users. Location is not used for advertising or tracking.

Tomoni does not collect payment card information because the app does not process online payments.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

Create and manage accounts.
Show listings and listing details.
Help users search local listings.
Let buyers and sellers contact each other.
Let sellers manage listing status.
Prevent abuse, investigate reports, and improve safety.
Maintain, debug, and improve the service.

Official Information Navigation

Tomoni includes a navigation hub for official Japanese residence and daily-life procedure guides. Using this hub does not require users to provide residence status, residence card or passport numbers, a home address, or individual case details. Official links open external government websites, whose own privacy practices apply.

User-Generated Content

Listings, images, messages, and reports are user-generated content. Users are responsible for the content they post. Tomoni may remove content or restrict accounts when content appears unsafe, fraudulent, illegal, or abusive.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information.

Information may be shared only when necessary to:

Provide the service through infrastructure providers such as database, storage, and hosting providers.
Comply with legal obligations.
Protect users, the service, or the public from fraud, abuse, or safety risks.

Listing information may be visible to other users. Messages are visible to conversation participants and may be reviewed for safety or moderation when reported.

Storage And Security

Tomoni uses access controls and backend security rules to protect account data, listings, messages, and uploaded files. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we work to limit access to the minimum needed to operate the service.

Data Retention

We retain information while an account or listing is active and as needed for safety, dispute prevention, legal compliance, and service operation. Users can delete their account in the app. Deletion signs the user out and removes Tomoni account data tied to that account, subject to records that must be retained for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention reasons.

Children

Tomoni is not intended for children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will take steps to delete it.

International Users

Tomoni is designed for people living in Japan, including foreign residents. Information may be processed using service providers that operate in other countries or regions.

Your Choices

Users can:

Update profile information in the app.
Delete or hide their own listings when available.
Report unsafe content or users.
Delete their account in the app or contact support for privacy assistance.
