Tomoni Terms of Service

These Terms of Service explain the rules for using Tomoni, a multilingual local marketplace for foreign residents in Japan.

1. Service

Tomoni lets users browse local secondhand listings, publish listings, and contact each other through in-app messages for in-person handoff.

Tomoni does not process online payments, deposits, escrow, shipping, delivery, or refunds in the MVP. Users are responsible for arranging the details of in-person exchange.

2. Accounts

Users may need an account to publish listings or contact other users. Users must provide accurate information and keep account access secure.

You are responsible for activity under your account.

3. User Content

Users may post listings, images, messages, and reports. You are responsible for your content and must not post content that is illegal, fraudulent, misleading, abusive, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent, or unsafe.

Tomoni may remove content or restrict accounts when content appears to violate these Terms or creates safety risk.

4. Prohibited Listings

Users must not list:

  • Illegal goods or services.
  • Stolen items.
  • Counterfeit or infringing goods.
  • Weapons, explosives, or dangerous items.
  • Drugs, controlled substances, or related items.
  • Adult sexual services or explicit sexual content.
  • Items that violate Japanese law or local regulations.
  • Any item that creates unacceptable safety, fraud, or legal risk.

Tomoni may update prohibited item rules as the service develops.

5. In-Person Exchange

Users should choose safe public handoff locations, verify the item before exchange, and avoid sharing unnecessary personal information.

Tomoni is not a party to transactions between users. Tomoni does not guarantee item quality, seller reliability, buyer reliability, handoff completion, or dispute outcomes.

6. Messages And Safety

Users must not harass, threaten, spam, scam, or abuse other users. Users can report unsafe behavior and block other users.

Tomoni may review reported content for moderation and safety.

7. No Payment Processing

Tomoni does not provide payment processing in the MVP. If users choose to exchange money outside the app, they do so at their own risk and must comply with applicable law.

8. Intellectual Property

Tomoni and its app design, branding, software, and service materials are owned by the Tomoni operator or licensors. Users retain rights to their own content but grant Tomoni permission to use that content as needed to operate, display, moderate, and improve the service.

9. Service Changes

Tomoni may change, suspend, or discontinue features as the service develops. Beta features may change quickly.

10. Disclaimer

Tomoni is provided as-is and as-available. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free service, listing accuracy, transaction completion, or user behavior.

11. Limitation Of Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Tomoni is not liable for indirect damages, lost profits, transaction disputes, item defects, user conduct, or losses from user-arranged offline exchange.

12. Termination

Tomoni may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create safety risk, or abuse the service.
